The short answer
Bifold doors in the UK typically cost around £2,000–£3,500 per leaf installed, with the material and opening width doing most of the work. A 3-door uPVC set often falls in the £1,950–£2,800 range, while a 3-door aluminium set usually runs £3,150–£7,000 depending on quality and span. Larger 4- and 5-door sets rise accordingly, with a 5-door aluminium system reaching roughly £5,260–£7,500. On top of the doors, labour for a standard fit is commonly £600–£1,500, and if the wall opening has to be widened a structural lintel can add £500–£1,500. The main drivers are material, the number of leaves, opening width and whether structural work is needed.
Price depends mainly on the material, how many leaves you need, the opening width and whether the wall has to be opened up. The figures below are typical installed prices for guidance, not quotations.
Typical UK costs
- Per leaf installed£2,000–£3,500
- 3-door uPVC set£1,950–£2,800
- 3-door aluminium set£3,150–£7,000
- Installation labour£600–£1,500
- Lintel if opening widened£500–£1,500
What drives the price
- Material: uPVC is the lowest-priced option; aluminium costs more but gives slimmer frames and a longer life (see the materials page).
- Number of leaves: each additional leaf adds roughly £700–£1,000, so a 4- or 5-door set costs more than a 3-door.
- Opening width & structural work: a wider span, or knocking a wall through, brings in a lintel and building-regs work.
- Glazing & spec: double or triple glazing, slimline frames and premium hardware all move the figure.

Why the opening matters as much as the doors
The doors themselves are only part of a bifold project. If you are replacing a like-for-like opening the job is mostly supply and fit, but if you are widening the wall to create a new aperture you also pay for a structural lintel, the opening-up works and building-regs sign-off — commonly an extra £500–£1,500 for the lintel alone before associated labour. That is why two quotes for the same doors can differ sharply: one may include structural work and the other assume an existing opening.

Frequently asked questions
How much do bifold doors cost in the UK?
Typically around £2,000–£3,500 per leaf installed. A 3-door uPVC set often falls in the £1,950–£2,800 range and a 3-door aluminium set runs roughly £3,150–£7,000, with larger sets and structural work adding to the figure.
How much does installation labour cost?
Labour for a standard domestic bifold fit is commonly £600–£1,500 on top of the doors. If the wall opening has to be widened, a structural lintel can add a further £500–£1,500.
Why is the price range so wide?
Because projects differ. The material, the number of leaves, the opening width and whether structural work is needed all move the figure. A measured quote gives the accurate number for your opening.
